Ratnagiri Estate are one of the pioneers of speciality coffee in India, specifically, speciality arabica, after many years of the country as a whole being well known for poor quality robusta, the Patre family at Ratnagiri have bucked the trend and are producing some truly excellent exports. The Ratnagiri Estate is often known as 'pearl mountain' due to the silver oak trees that shade the saplings when growing.  Nowadays, specifically owner and lead producer Ashok Patre runs the show, converting the farm from a traditional commodity robusta farm in 1989, to a more speciality focused operation, practicing specifically washed coffee in the first place, and moving gradually in to more experimental process, such as Mossto and Fermentation methods as a whole."
